Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

For all the advertised faculty levels, candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. in the appropriate branch, with first class or an equivalent grade in the preceding degree and a very good academic record throughout. Experience, research output and additional screening requirements differ by post.

Professor: Applicants need at least 10 years of teaching, research or industrial experience, including at least four years at Associate Professor level in an IIT, IIM, IISc Bengaluru, IISER or an institution of comparable standing in India or abroad. They should also have strong research, training and consulting credentials. Experience gained while pursuing a Ph.D. is not counted. Screening criteria include a first-class or equivalent Master’s degree and a consistently good academic record, plus at least 55% or equivalent in the Bachelor’s degree. The publication requirement is at least two papers in Category A journals, four in Category B, or eight in Category C. A book from a reputed publisher counts as one Category C paper; a case with a teaching note published by Harvard Case Publishing, Richard Ivey or Emerald is also treated as equivalent to one Category C paper. FPM/Ph.D. guidance is preferred.

Associate Professor: Applicants need at least six years of experience, including at least three years as an Assistant Professor, and must be able to engage with a diverse student body and executives and conduct independent research. Candidates from industry, government, PSUs or research organisations may also be considered with six years of experience at a level equivalent to Assistant Professor. Ph.D.-period experience is excluded. Screening criteria include a first-class or equivalent Master’s degree with a consistently good academic record and at least 55% or equivalent at Bachelor’s level. Candidates must have at least one Category A journal paper, two Category B papers or four Category C papers. A reputed-publisher book or a qualifying case with teaching note from Harvard Case Publishing, Richard Ivey or Emerald counts as one Category C paper. FPM/Ph.D. guidance is preferred.

Assistant Professor Grade-I: Applicants generally need at least three years of teaching, research or industrial experience, excluding the time spent pursuing a Ph.D. In exceptional cases, the experience requirement may be waived for candidates with excellent academic credentials. A fresh Ph.D. holder may be considered on contract, and candidates from industry, government, PSUs or research organisations with three years at a level equivalent to Assistant Professor may also be considered. The screening criteria include a first-class or equivalent Master’s degree with a consistently good academic record and at least 55% or equivalent in the Bachelor’s degree. Applicants should normally have at least two publications in Web of Science, Scopus or ABDC journals; the number may be relaxed for substantial international or national industry experience. A book published by a reputed publisher counts as one Category C paper, and a case with teaching note published by Harvard Case Publishing, Richard Ivey or Emerald is treated as equivalent to one Category C paper.

Assistant Professor Grade-II (on contract): This is a contractual level outside the regular faculty cadre, intended to give promising early-career Ph.D. holders teaching experience at a premier institution. The notification requires a Ph.D. in the appropriate branch, first class or equivalent in the preceding degree and a very good academic record throughout. The Screening Committee may set relevant parameters for shortlisting candidates.

Academic-record relaxations: For the stated Bachelor’s and Master’s degree marks criteria for Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor Grade-I, the notification provides a 5% relaxation for SC/ST/DAP candidates and a 3% relaxation for OBC candidates.

Selection Process
