GPSC Assistant Port Officer Recruitment 2026

The Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) has issued Advertisement No. 52/2026-27 for recruitment to the Assistant Port Officer, Class-2 post in the Gujarat Maritime Board. The opportunity is intended for candidates with the specified postgraduate qualification or port-management diploma, relevant administrative or accounts experience, and the other required skills.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree in Business Administration, Science, Commerce or Engineering, or a postgraduate diploma in Port Management or Port and Shipping Management. The qualification must be from a university established or incorporated under a Central or State Act in India, another institution recognised as such, or an institution declared to be a deemed university under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

Candidates must also have at least two years of qualifying experience. This may be experience in a Gujarat Maritime Board post not below the rank of Head Clerk, or at least two years in administration and/or accounts in a government department, local body, government undertaking, board, corporation, university or limited company established under the Companies Act, 2013. In the latter organisations, the post must be considered equivalent to a position not below Head Clerk in the Gujarat Maritime Board. Applicants also need basic computer application knowledge as prescribed under the Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules, 1967, and adequate knowledge of Gujarati, Hindi or both.

Age Limit

The maximum age is 39 years, calculated on the last date for receipt of applications. The notification lists these age relaxations: candidates of Gujarat origin belonging to SC, ST, SEBC or EWS categories receive 5 years, subject to a maximum age of 45; women candidates in those Gujarat-origin categories receive 10 years in total, including the 5-year relaxation applicable to women, subject to a maximum age of 45. Other women candidates receive 5 years, up to a maximum age of 45. Persons with disabilities receive 10 years, up to a maximum age of 45. Ex-servicemen, including E.C.O./S.C.O., may receive relaxation equal to the length of military service plus three years. Gujarat Maritime Board employees are subject to relaxation as per the applicable rules.

Salary & Pay Scale

The post carries 7th Pay Commission Pay Matrix Level 08, with a pay scale of INR 44,900 to INR 1,42,400. The notification states that selected candidates will be employees or officers of the Gujarat Maritime Board and will not be considered employees or officers of the Government of Gujarat.

Selection Process

Selection consists of a Preliminary Test followed by an interview. The preliminary examination has 100 General Studies questions for 100 marks and 200 questions on the concerned subject for 200 marks, making 300 questions and 300 marks overall. The stated total test duration is 180 minutes. The tentative dates are 13 December 2026 for Part I, General Studies, and 23 January 2027 for Part II, the concerned subject.

The interview is conducted according to the Commission’s instructions and provisions. Final merit is based on weighted marks, with 50% assigned to the Preliminary Test and 50% to the interview: Preliminary Test marks are multiplied by 50/300, and interview marks by 50/100, then added. For four or more vacancies, the stated interview-call benchmark is three times the number of vacancies or 20 candidates, whichever is higher. The notification also lists 10 interview candidates for one vacancy, 16 for two vacancies and 18 for three vacancies.
