Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Trade Apprentice: Candidates must have passed High School and ITI (Regular Full Time) from an NCVT/SCVT recognized institute in the notified trade.

Technician Apprentice: Candidates must have passed High School and possess a Diploma in Engineering (Regular Full Time) completed within the last five years. Minimum marks required are 60% for UR/OBC(NCL)/EWS and 50% for SC/ST.

Graduate Apprentice: Candidates must have passed 10+2 and completed a Regular Full Time Graduation in the specified Engineering discipline or Commerce (B.Com) or Arts (B.A). Minimum marks required are 60% for UR/OBC(NCL)/EWS and 50% for SC/ST.

Passing Year Restriction: For Technician and Graduate Apprentice categories, candidates must have completed their Diploma/Degree in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026. Distance Learning/Part-Time/Correspondence/Sandwich courses are not considered for any category.

Domicile Preference: Candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from government-recognized institutions located in Tamil Nadu will be considered for selection. Vacancies will be opened to other candidates only if suitable Tamil Nadu candidates are unavailable for a given branch.

Age Limit

The age limit is uniform across all three categories: candidates must be between 18 years and 27 years for General candidates.

Age Relaxation:

  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • OBC (NCL): 3 years
  • PwBD (minimum 40% disability): 10 years

Application Fee

The notification states that the application fee is Nil for all three apprentice categories.

How to Apply

  1. Before applying on the BHEL Trichy portal, complete registration on the relevant Government of India portal as required for your category.
  2. Step 1 (Government portal registration): Trade Apprentice candidates must register at www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in (RDSDE/NAPS Portal). Technician and Graduate Apprentice candidates must register at https://nats.education.gov.in (MHRD NATS 2.0 Portal).
  3. During Government portal registration, complete Aadhaar verification and e-KYC (including bank details and IFSC code).
  4. After registration, note the unique Registration/Student Enrolment Number generated, as it is mandatory for the BHEL application.
  5. Step 2 (Apply on BHEL Trichy portal): Visit https://trichy.bhel.com and open the “Apprenticeship Application Portal (TRICHY)”.
  6. Click “Register”, accept the instructions by selecting “I agree”, and submit the registration form.
  7. Use the OTP sent to your registered email ID and mobile number to set/create a new password.
  8. Log in using the new password and fill the application form completely.
  9. Upload scanned copies of the required documents (as specified in the notification) and submit the application.
  10. Save a copy of the submitted application for future reference and for document verification purposes.

Selection Process

Selection will be based purely on merit derived from the marks obtained in the qualifying examination (ITI for Trade Apprentices, Diploma for Technician Apprentices, and Degree for Graduate Apprentices). There is no separate written test. If candidates secure the same marks, the candidate who is older in age will be given preference.
