Selection Process

All applicants sit the Stage I objective written examination. Candidates must score at least 33% separately in both the Common Paper and Technical Paper, with no sectional cut-off within the Common Paper. There is no negative marking. The written exam carries 200 marks over two hours: the Common Paper has 40 questions worth 2.5 marks each and lasts one hour; the post-specific Technical Paper has 50 questions worth two marks each and also lasts one hour. The Common Paper covers general questions, reasoning ability, arithmetic ability, and English language and comprehension, with 10 questions and 25 marks for each section. Technical papers cover ANM, Laboratory Technician, Pharmacist, ECG Technician, Dental Technician, Health Assistant Jr., Road Safety and Traffic Signages for post codes 31/26–35/26, Field Publicity Assistant, or Publicity Assistant, according to the post. The Common Paper and Technical Paper syllabi were separately notified under references APSSB-13/9/2026/1437 and APSSB-13/9/2026/1438, both dated 8 October 2026, in the Syllabus section of the APSSB website.

Further stages vary by role and are qualifying only. ANM candidates face a competency test; LMV and HMV Driver candidates take a driving test; Head Constable Driver candidates take PST/PET, a driving test and a medical fitness test; and Constable (MT) Driver candidates take PST/PET and a medical fitness test. The other listed technical and publicity posts require the written examination only. Shortlisting for PST/PET is in a 1:8 ratio, while driving and ANM competency tests use a 1:3 ratio, subject to the written-paper qualifying marks. Document verification follows the applicable tests, and the final merit list is based on written examination marks alone.

For male candidates in the applicable driver posts, PST height is 160 cm for APST candidates outside Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts, and 152 cm for APST candidates from those three districts. Chest measurement is 79 cm unexpanded and 84 cm expanded for all categories. PET standards are a 100-metre race in 16 seconds; a 1,500-metre race in 8 minutes 30 seconds for Head Constable Driver or 8 minutes for Constable (MT) Driver; a 107 cm high jump; and an 11-foot long jump. Candidates have a maximum of three attempts for each jump. Ex-Servicemen are exempt from PET but must pass PST. Vision standards are corrected distant vision of 6/6 in the better eye and 6/12 in the worse eye, corrected near vision of J1/J2, and no colour blindness.

For the ANM competency test, each candidate attempts three of four five-minute stations: Vital Signs, Maternal and Child Health, Infection Control Protocol, and Basic Procedure in Midwifery. Each station carries 10 marks, and candidates need 7 marks at each station attempted and 21 out of 30 overall to qualify. The written examination is scheduled to be held only in the Itanagar Capital Region. APSSB may cancel a venue or move candidates without providing reasons; requests to change the examination date, time or centre will not be accepted. Candidates must bring their admit card and the same original photo ID used in the application. Calculators, mobile phones, watches and other electronic gadgets are prohibited in the examination hall.

Eligible candidates should check their post-specific conditions and submit a complete online application before the deadline of 5 November 2026 at 5:00 PM.
