Each incorrect objective-test answer attracts a penalty of 0.25 marks. If a large number of candidates score at least 50, candidates ranked up to ten times the number of vacancies may be shortlisted for the next stage—about 2,500 candidates for 250 vacancies.

Typing test

Candidates type an English passage on a computer for 10 minutes, at a required speed of 35 words per minute. Mistakes of up to 3% of the total words typed are allowed. A wrong word or figure counts as one full mistake; an incorrect capital or small letter, or a punctuation mark that is omitted, added or replaced, counts as half a mistake. The descriptive answer sheets are checked only for candidates who pass the typing test.

Descriptive test and interview

The two-hour descriptive English paper contains a comprehension passage, precis writing and essay writing. It assesses clear, accurate writing rather than subject knowledge. Candidates who pass the first three tests are called for interview in a ratio of one candidate for every three vacancies—about 750 candidates for 250 posts. The interview is worth 25 marks and assesses communication, general awareness and suitability for court work. It may be conducted online or in person in Delhi; its duration has not been specified.

Admission to each stage is provisional. Documents are checked during verification, and a candidate found ineligible at any point may lose their candidature. Objections to the objective-test answer key can be submitted during the notified 22–23 November window. The charge is Rs. 100 per objection and is refunded if the objection is found valid. Candidates should monitor www.sci.gov.in for updates to the later-stage schedule.

Eligible candidates should complete their online application and fee payment before the deadline of 28 October 2026 at 11:55 p.m., and use the official website to check subsequent examination updates.
