SAIL IISCO Trade Apprentice Recruitment 2026

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has invited applications for 200 Trade Apprentice positions at its IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur. This one-year apprenticeship is intended for candidates who have passed ITI in the relevant trade and meet the conditions set out in the notification.

Applications must be submitted online through the NAPS portal from September 28 to October 7, 2026. The engagement is apprenticeship training under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961; candidates will be assessed using their ITI marks in the relevant trade and category, with age used as the tie-breaker.

SAIL IISCO has announced 200 seats across nine trades. The trade-wise distribution is as follows:

Seat reservation is stated to follow state government guidelines for educational institutions. The notification gives the following reservation percentages: SC, 22%; ST, 6%; OBC, 17%; EWS, 10%; and PwD, 3%. Applicants claiming a reserved category must hold a valid, updated certificate that meets the applicable guidelines. PwD applicants must be able to perform routine basic functions independently.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Applicants must have passed ITI in the trade for which they are applying. A candidate whose apprenticeship contract ID has already been created under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961, for apprenticeship training with another organisation is not eligible. Candidates are advised to apply for only one trade that fits their qualification and the advertised requirements.

Age Limit

Candidates must be at least 18 years old on September 28, 2026. The notification states that the maximum age is as prescribed under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961; it does not provide a separate maximum-age figure or category-specific age-relaxation details. If applicants have equal aggregate marks, the older candidate will be preferred.

Application Fee

The notification does not specify an application fee. Its accompanying FAQ states that candidates may apply free of cost.

How to Apply

1. Open the NAPS portal and register online as a student.
2. Complete registration and obtain a valid registration number. This registration is compulsory for applying.
3. Log in to the portal as a candidate.
4. Open “Apprentice opportunity” and select “Find establishment”.
5. Find and select SAIL-IISCO STEEL PLANT, Burnpur, using establishment code E03171900012.
6. Choose the vacancy in the ITI trade you have passed and submit your application through the portal.
7. Complete the online submission by October 7, 2026. The notification advises applying early rather than waiting until the closing date.

Salary & Pay Scale

The apprenticeship contract ends automatically when the training period is complete. This training does not create a right to regular employment at SAIL IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur. Shortlisted candidates must provide a notarized undertaking confirming that they will not claim employment on the basis of their training or its completion.

Selection Process

Selection is based on marks obtained during ITI, considered for the relevant trade and specified category. Where applicants have equal aggregate marks, preference goes to the older candidate. A waiting list equal to 10% of the total seats may be used only if there is a shortfall in candidates joining. The notification also states that candidature is provisional and subject to verification of certificates and testimonials; applications may be cancelled if eligibility requirements are not met or incorrect information or documents have been supplied or facts withheld.
