The Preliminary Examination is a screening test of 100 marks and is used to shortlist candidates for the Main Written Examination. The Main Written Examination carries 600 marks and consists of four papers of 150 marks each. Candidates who secure qualifying marks are shortlisted for the Personality Test/Interview in a 1:2 ratio (minimum 5) with reference to category-wise vacancies. The Interview carries 50 marks. The final merit list is prepared based on the combined marks of the Written Examination and Interview (total 650 marks) category-wise. In case of a tie, higher marks in the Written Examination will be considered first; if still tied, the older candidate by date of birth will be placed higher.
Preliminary Examination details include objective-type MCQs of 1 mark each (100 questions) with a duration of 2 hours. Negative marking applies: 25% of marks will be deducted for each wrong answer, and unattempted questions will fetch zero marks. Marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not counted toward the final merit list.
For the Main Examination, the written component is subjective and descriptive in nature, and qualifying marks are fixed by the Commission for each paper and/or the aggregate. The Personality Test/Interview is conducted for 50 marks.
