JKPSC Assistant Professor, College Director & Librarian Recruitment 2026

The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has released Notification No. 05-PSC(DR-P) of 2026, dated 31 July 2026, inviting online applications for recruitment in Government Degree Colleges under the Higher Education Department. The notification covers posts of Assistant Professor (in multiple disciplines), College Director of Physical Education & Sports, and Librarian. Candidates who are domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and meet the prescribed academic/professional qualifications and age criteria can apply through the official JKPSC website.

This recruitment is for a total of 205 vacancies and is described as a separate “fresh vacancies” notification, distinct from an earlier backlog vacancy notification. The online application window opens on 1 August 2026 and closes on 31 August 2026, including fee payment and document upload. After submission, candidates can edit certain fields between 1 September 2026 and 3 September 2026. Selection for the Assistant Professor posts will be conducted as per Rule 45 of the J&K Public Service Commission (Business & Procedure) Rules, 2021, through a written examination followed by document verification.

Vacancy Details

A total of 205 vacancies have been announced through this notification, spread across 27 teaching disciplines plus the posts of College Director of Physical Education & Sports and Librarian. The discipline-wise and category-wise vacancy distribution is provided below.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, candidates must be domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and must satisfy the prescribed academic/professional qualifications and age conditions as specified in the recruitment rules and notification. The age limit is calculated as on 1 January 2026.

Educational Qualification

Assistant Professor (General Disciplines)

Candidates must satisfy either Option A or Option B as given below.

Option A:

• Master’s degree with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/differently abled/Ph.D. degree holders who obtained their master’s degree before 19 September 1991) in a concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign University.
• Must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC/CSIR, or a similar test accredited by UGC such as SLET/SET.
• Ph.D. degree holders (as per UGC Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of M.Phil/Ph.D. Degree Regulations 2009 or 2016) may be exempted from NET/SLET/SET, subject to conditions including evaluation by external examiners, an open Ph.D. viva-voce, and publication/presentation of research papers, duly certified by the Registrar or Dean (Academic Affairs) of the concerned University.

Option B:

• Ph.D. degree obtained from a foreign University/institution ranked among the top 500 in World University Rankings (QS, THE, or ARWU – Shanghai) at any time.

Assistant Professor (Music)

Eligibility is the same as Option A/B above for the relevant subject, or candidates may qualify as a traditional and professional artist with highly commendable professional achievement who has studied under noted/reputed traditional masters/artists. Such candidates must hold an “A” grade artist rating of AIR/Doordarshan, be able to explain the logical reasoning of the subject, and have adequate knowledge to teach theory with illustrations in the discipline.

Assistant Professor (Computer Application)

Candidates must have a Master’s degree in a relevant subject with at least 60% marks (55%/50% relaxation for SC/ST/differently abled/Ph.D. degree holders who obtained their master’s degree before 19 September 1991) from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign University. They must also have NET/SLET/SET (or Ph.D. exemption subject to the conditions mentioned in the notification) or a Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked among the top 500 world universities (QS/THE/ARWU).

Candidates are required to deposit the requisite fee through online mode only after successful submission of the online application form.

How to Apply

1. Visit the official JKPSC website: www.jkpsc.nic.in.
2. Check the recruitment notification and ensure you meet the eligibility conditions for the relevant post/discipline.
3. Before filling the application form, update your One Time Registration (OTR), as advised in the notification.
4. Start the online application form from 1 August 2026 and complete it by 31 August 2026.
5. Fill in all required details carefully and upload the required documents as part of the application.
6. After successful submission, pay the application fee through online mode (as applicable for your category).
7. Review the submitted application and keep a copy/printout of the final submitted form for future reference.
8. Note that editing of some fields is allowed between 1 September 2026 and 3 September 2026.

Salary & Pay Scale

The pay band mentioned for the posts is Level-10 with a pay range of 57700 to 182400 (as stated in the notification).

Selection Process

Selection for the Assistant Professor posts will be made as per Rule 45 of the J&K Public Service Commission (Business & Procedure) Rules, 2021. The process includes a written examination followed by document verification. The written examination is described as a test of 120 MCQs, and candidates will then be required to complete document verification as per the rules.
