The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has released Notification No. 05-PSC(DR-P) of 2026, dated 31 July 2026, inviting online applications for recruitment in Government Degree Colleges under the Higher Education Department. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, candidates must be domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and must satisfy the prescribed academic/professional qualifications and age conditions as specified in the recruitment rules and notification. The age limit is calculated as on 1 January 2026.

Educational Qualification

Assistant Professor (General Disciplines)

Candidates must satisfy either Option A or Option B as given below.

Option A:

  • Master’s degree with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/differently abled/Ph.D. degree holders who obtained their master’s degree before 19 September 1991) in a concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign University.
  • Must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC/CSIR, or a similar test accredited by UGC such as SLET/SET.
  • Ph.D. degree holders (as per UGC Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of M.Phil/Ph.D. Degree Regulations 2009 or 2016) may be exempted from NET/SLET/SET, subject to conditions including evaluation by external examiners, an open Ph.D. viva-voce, and publication/presentation of research papers, duly certified by the Registrar or Dean (Academic Affairs) of the concerned University.

Option B:

  • Ph.D. degree obtained from a foreign University/institution ranked among the top 500 in World University Rankings (QS, THE, or ARWU – Shanghai) at any time.

Assistant Professor (Music)

Eligibility is the same as Option A/B above for the relevant subject, or candidates may qualify as a traditional and professional artist with highly commendable professional achievement who has studied under noted/reputed traditional masters/artists. Such candidates must hold an “A” grade artist rating of AIR/Doordarshan, be able to explain the logical reasoning of the subject, and have adequate knowledge to teach theory with illustrations in the discipline.

Assistant Professor (Computer Application)

Candidates must have a Master’s degree in a relevant subject with at least 60% marks (55%/50% relaxation for SC/ST/differently abled/Ph.D. degree holders who obtained their master’s degree before 19 September 1991) from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign University. They must also have NET/SLET/SET (or Ph.D. exemption subject to the conditions mentioned in the notification) or a Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked among the top 500 world universities (QS/THE/ARWU).
