Indian Overseas Bank Security Guard Recruitment 2026

Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has released a recruitment notification for Security Guard posts for eligible Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Agniveers. This drive is exclusively for candidates who meet the specified eligibility conditions and who can be appointed in Chennai/Tamil Nadu. If you are an eligible Ex-Serviceman/Ex-Agniveer and meet the Tamil language and educational requirements, you can apply online within the given dates.

IOB is hiring for a total of 25 Security Guard vacancies. The online application window opens on 2026-08-25 and closes on 2026-09-14. Applications must be submitted online only through the official website (www.iob.bank.in); no other mode of application is accepted. Selection will be based on a reservation-wise merit list prepared from performance in an Online Objective Type Test, a Local Language (Tamil) Test, and a Physical Fitness Test, with an option for free pre-examination training for certain categories.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed the 10th standard or an equivalent examination. The notification also specifies that the candidate should not have passed Graduation or its equivalent. In addition, the candidate must be able to speak, read, and write Tamil. At the time of valid discharge from the Armed Forces, the candidate’s character must be “Exemplary”. The medical standard required is Minimum SHAPE-1 or AYE, whichever applicable, at the time of valid discharge from the Armed Forces.

Age Limit

The age limit is given as on 2026-08-01. The minimum age is 18 years. For the maximum age, the notification provides category-wise limits with relaxation based on the actual period of defence service and an additional 3 years (subject to an overall cap of 45 years) for certain categories. For General candidates, the maximum age is 26 years + actual period of defence service + 3 years, subject to a maximum of 45 years. For SC/ST, the maximum age is 31 years + actual period of defence service + 3 years, subject to a maximum of 45 years. For OBC, the maximum age is 29 years + actual period of defence service + 3 years, subject to a maximum of 45 years. For Agniveer, the maximum age is 21 years + actual period of service as Agniveer + 3 years.

The notification clearly states that Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), disabled Ex-Servicemen, and dependents of servicemen killed in action are not eligible to apply for this post.

Application Fee

There is no application fee for this recruitment. The notification indicates that the application fee is Nil.

How to Apply

1. Go to the official website of Indian Overseas Bank: www.iob.bank.in and open the Careers section.
2. Find the link for Recruitment of Security Guards, select the post, and click Apply Online.
3. Click Click here to Register Online to complete registration. Save the Registration Number and Password sent to you via email and SMS.
4. Log in to the application portal and upload the required documents/images, including photograph, signature, live photo, left thumb impression, and the handwritten declaration as per the specifications mentioned in Annexure I.
5. Fill in all required details carefully, including personal, educational, and defence-service information.
6. After verifying the entries, click Complete Registration at the end of the form.
7. Download and take a printout of the system-generated application form for future reference. The notification states that no other mode of application will be accepted.

Salary & Pay Scale

Selected candidates will be placed in the Subordinate Staff cadre as per the 12th Bipartite Settlement. The basic pay will be fixed based on the candidate’s last drawn salary during defence service.

Selection Process

Selection for the Security Guard post will be made from a reservation-wise merit list based on marks obtained across three main stages: an Online Objective Type Test, a Local Language (Tamil) Test, and a Physical Fitness Test. The Online Objective Type Test carries 80 marks and includes Knowledge of English Language (20), Aptitude Test (20), Arithmetic Test (20), and Psychometric Test (20). The Local Language Test carries 20 marks and assesses knowledge of Tamil. The Physical Fitness Test carries 100 marks and includes Push-Ups (30; qualifying 20), Sit-Ups (30; qualifying 20), One Kilometre Run (30; qualifying 20), and Drill (10; qualifying 5). Candidates must pass each of the four physical fitness sub-tests individually, with an overall qualifying score of 65 marks. The notification also mentions free pre-examination training arranged by the Bank at Chennai for SC/ST/Minority Community/Ex-Servicemen candidates who opt for it in the online application; however, travel, boarding, and lodging expenses must be borne by the candidate. Final selection will be strictly according to the reservation-wise merit ranking based on marks in the Online Test, Local Language Test, and Physical Fitness Test.
