Indian Coast Guard Region (West) Group C Recruitment 2026

Indian Coast Guard Region (West), under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has announced direct recruitment for six Group C civilian posts. Indian citizens who meet the qualification, experience and age requirements for a post may apply using the prescribed offline form.

The recruitment offers one vacancy each for six posts, with pay levels ranging from Level 1 to Level 4. The notification was released on 18 September 2026 and published in Employment News for 19–25 September; applications must reach the Mumbai headquarters by 3 November 2026. Applications are accepted by ordinary post only, and selection includes application scrutiny, document and biometric verification, and a written examination, followed by a trade test where applicable.

Educational Qualification

Requirements differ by post, and candidates should check that they meet both the qualification and experience conditions for the position they select:

• Store Keeper Grade II: 12th pass from a recognised board or university, with one year of experience handling stores in a recognised firm, Central or State Government organisation, or Public Sector Undertaking.
• Engine Driver: Matriculation or equivalent from a recognised board, together with a Certificate of Competency as Engine Driver from a recognised government institute or equivalent. Two years of service as Sarang on a vessel exceeding 400 Boat Horse Power is desirable.
• Lascar: Matriculation or equivalent from a recognised board and three years of experience in service on a boat.
• Civilian Motor Transport Driver (Ordinary Grade): 10th standard pass; valid driving licences for both heavy and light motor vehicles; knowledge of motor mechanism sufficient to remove minor vehicle defects; and at least two years of motor vehicle driving experience.
• MTS (Peon): Matriculation or equivalent pass, with two years of experience as an office attendant.
• MTS (Chowkidar): Matriculation or equivalent pass, with two years of experience as a Chowkidar in a recognised institution or organisation.

Age Limit

The age limits vary by post. Store Keeper Grade II applicants must be 18–25 years old; Engine Driver and Lascar applicants must be 18–30; and applicants for Civilian Motor Transport Driver, MTS (Peon) and MTS (Chowkidar) must be 18–27. The notification allows government-servant age relaxation under applicable Central Government instructions. Store Keeper Grade II has a stated government-servant relaxation up to age 40. For Engine Driver, relaxation of five years is stated for SC candidates against reserved vacancies, in accordance with applicable instructions. For the three posts with an 18–27 limit, a three-year relaxation is stated for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates, subject to government instructions. Lascar has a government-servant relaxation up to age 40. The notification also refers to applicable government instructions for government-servant, SC and OBC relaxations, as relevant to each post.

Application Fee

No application fee is specified; candidates may apply without paying a recruitment fee. However, each applicant must include a separate blank, self-addressed envelope bearing a Rs. 50 postal stamp pasted on it. This stamped envelope is an application requirement, not an application fee.

How to Apply

1. Download the prescribed application form, identified as Annexure-I, from the official Indian Coast Guard website.
2. Complete the form in either English or Hindi, following the prescribed format. Provide a valid personal email address and contact number for communication.
3. Affix a self-attested colour photograph to the application form.
4. Attach photocopies of the documents required by the notification. Self-attest each copy and include your name and date. Do not send original certificates with the application.
5. Enclose a separate blank envelope addressed to yourself, with a Rs. 50 postal stamp pasted on it.
6. Write in bold on the application envelope: “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF ‘________’” and state the category applied under, such as UR, EWS, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC or ST.
7. Send the completed application and attachments by ordinary post only to: Headquarters, Coast Guard Region (West), Alexander Graham Bell Road, PO Malabar Hill, Mumbai 400006.
8. Ensure the application reaches the address by 3 November 2026. Applications received after the deadline will be rejected.

Salary & Pay Scale

The advertised pay scales are monthly pay-matrix ranges. Store Keeper Grade II and Civilian Motor Transport Driver are in Level 2, from 19900 to 63200. Engine Driver is in Level 4, from 25500 to 81100. Lascar, MTS (Peon) and MTS (Chowkidar) are in Level 1, from 18000 to 56900.

Selection Process

Applications will first be scrutinised against the eligibility requirements and supporting documents. Shortlisted candidates will receive admit cards for document verification and the written examination. At initial document verification, the Coast Guard will capture the candidate’s photograph and thumb impression for biometric verification; candidates must bring original documents and two sets of self-attested photocopies. The written test is a one-hour, pen-and-paper examination with 80 bilingual objective questions, carrying one mark for each correct answer and no negative marking. Questions cover General Knowledge, Mathematics, General English and the relevant trade. The qualifying mark is 50%, reduced to 45% for SC and ST candidates; no qualifying-mark relaxation is available to OBC or EWS candidates. Candidates who pass may be shortlisted for a trade test where applicable. The merit list will be based strictly on written-examination marks and published on the Indian Coast Guard website.
