GATE 2027 Examination Notification

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 is a national-level examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board, Ministry of Education, Government of India. IIT Madras is the organizing institute for GATE 2027. Candidates who meet the educational eligibility requirements and want to appear for GATE 2027 can apply online through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).

GATE 2027 will be conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT) for 30 test papers. The online application process starts on 14 August 2026 and is available in a regular window and an extended window. The application is submitted online only through GOAPS. Selection is not a recruitment process; instead, candidates’ ranks/scores are determined based directly on their performance in the single-stage CBT.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must satisfy the educational eligibility conditions before submitting the GATE 2027 application. Eligible candidates include those currently studying in the 3rd or higher year of any undergraduate degree program, or those who have already completed any government-approved degree program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities.

Also eligible are candidates currently studying in the 5th/6th/7th or higher semester, or candidates who have already completed degrees such as M.B.B.S., B.D.S., B.V.Sc., or B.Sc. (Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry).

Candidates holding certification from recognized professional societies (including the Institution of Engineers (India), Institution of Civil Engineers, IETE, Aeronautical Society of India, IIChE, IIM, and IIIE) are eligible if the certification is approved by MoE/AICTE/UGC/UPSC as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Planning.

Candidates pursuing or holding a qualifying degree from outside India must be in the 3rd or higher year, or must have completed a Bachelor’s degree of at least three years’ duration in a relevant discipline.

Age Limit

There is no age limit to appear for GATE 2027.

Application Fee

The fee is charged per test paper. If a candidate applies for two papers, the total fee payable is twice the single-paper fee. Bank service/processing charges are not included in the stated amounts.

How to Apply

1. Visit the official GATE 2027 website and open the GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System).
2. Register using a valid email ID and mobile number. During registration, provide live facial details.
3. Log in to the application portal and fill in personal, academic, and category details as required.
4. Select the test paper(s): choose one paper or two papers from the approved list of two-paper combinations.
5. Choose up to three examination city preferences from the same GATE zone.
6. Upload the required documents, including photograph, signature, and photo ID. Photo ID can be Aadhaar-UID, Aadhaar Virtual ID, Passport, PAN, Voter ID, or Driving Licence. Upload SC/ST/PwD/Dyslexia certificates wherever applicable.
7. Pay the application fee online using the payment methods available on the portal.
8. Review all entered details carefully before submitting the application form.
9. Submit the application and keep the confirmation page for future reference.

Salary & Pay Scale

Not applicable. GATE 2027 is an examination; no salary or pay scale is mentioned in the notification.

Selection Process

GATE 2027 is conducted as a single-stage Computer Based Test (CBT). A candidate’s rank/score is determined directly based on performance in the CBT. The exam includes General Aptitude (GA) and the candidate’s selected subject(s), with questions of types MCQ, MSQ, and NAT. The marking scheme includes negative marking only for MCQs, while MSQ and NAT questions do not have negative marking.

Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements should complete their GOAPS application before the extended registration last date, 5 October 2026, to avoid missing the opportunity to appear for GATE 2027.
