CSL Ship Draftsman Trainee Recruitment 2026

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has released the CSL Ship Draftsman Trainee Recruitment 2026 notification under Reference No. CSL/P&A/RECTT/TRAINEES/GENERAL/2023/1 dated 18 August 2026. CSL is hiring candidates for the post of Ship Draftsman Trainee in Mechanical and Electrical disciplines. Eligible Indian citizens can apply online through the official CSL website during the notified registration window.

The recruitment is for a total of 60 vacancies, distributed across Mechanical and Electrical disciplines with category-wise reservation. The online application process starts on 19 August 2026 and closes on 4 September 2026. Applications must be submitted online only via the SAP Online portal after completing One Time Registration. Selection will be based on a Practical Test (CAD Drawing) conducted at CSL, Kochi, and candidates must also complete certificate verification before being allowed to appear for the practical test.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must meet the discipline-wise educational requirements. For Ship Draftsman Trainee (Mechanical), the candidate should have passed SSLC and a three-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a State Board of Technical Education, with a minimum of 60% marks. The notification also requires flair for draftsmanship and proficiency in CAD. For Ship Draftsman Trainee (Electrical), the candidate should have passed SSLC and a three-year Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a State Board of Technical Education, with a minimum of 60% marks, along with flair for draftsmanship and proficiency in CAD.

Age Limit

The upper age limit is 25 years as on 4 September 2026. This implies that applicants should be born on or after 5 September 2001. Age relaxation is applicable as per category: OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates get relaxation of 3 years, and SC/ST candidates get relaxation of 5 years.

Application Fee

The fee is non-refundable and must be paid online. Payment is required between 19 August 2026 and 4 September 2026 using Debit Card/Credit Card/Internet Banking. No other mode of payment is accepted.

How to Apply

2. Read the User Manual and FAQ available on the website before starting the application.
3. Complete the One Time Registration on the SAP Online portal.
4. Fill the online application form with personal, educational, and category-related details.
5. Upload required documents, including certificates for age, educational qualification, and caste (if applicable), along with a recent passport-size colour photograph.
6. Pay the application fee online (SC/ST candidates are exempted). Ensure payment is completed within the notified dates.
7. Verify all entries carefully and submit the application. After final submission, no changes are allowed.
8. Save a soft copy and/or printout of the submitted application and keep the system-generated registration number for future reference.

Salary & Pay Scale

Selected trainees receive a monthly stipend during the two-year training period. The notification also indicates that extra working hours may be paid as applicable.

Selection Process

Selection for the Ship Draftsman Trainee post is based on a Practical Test (CAD Drawing) of 100 marks, conducted at CSL, Kochi. There is no written examination. CSL may shortlist candidates for the practical test based on eligibility verification through the uploaded certificates, depending on the number of applications received. Candidates must clear certificate verification before being permitted to appear for the practical test. Minimum pass marks are 50% for Unreserved/EWS candidates, 45% for OBC candidates, and 40% for SC/ST candidates (applicable only to seats reserved for the respective categories). Discipline-wise rank lists are prepared based on marks obtained in the practical test; if there is a tie, seniority in age determines relative merit. CSL may relax the minimum pass mark if the number of qualified candidates is insufficient.
