CSIR Technician (Technician 1) Recruitment 2026

The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has released the official notification for CSIR Technician Recruitment 2026 under Advertisement No. R&A/01/2026. CSIR is hiring for Technician (1) posts in various trades across CSIR units. Candidates who meet the trade-specific educational and technical requirements can apply online within the announced dates.

This recruitment is for a total of 43 vacancies under Group-C, Group-II (1). The online application process starts on 2026-08-18 at 10:00 AM and closes on 2026-09-17 at 5:00 PM. Applications must be submitted online only through the CSIR recruitment portal. Selection will be based on application screening, a qualifying Trade Test, and a competitive written examination, followed by preparation of a final merit list using marks from Paper-II and Paper-III.

CSIR has also specified reservation details for the 43 vacancies: 19 UR, 11 OBC (NCL), 6 SC, 3 ST and 4 EWS posts. Additionally, two vacancies are reserved for PwBD candidates and four posts include horizontal reservation for Ex-Servicemen. The notification further mentions that candidates must satisfy the qualification prescribed for the specific trade they apply for.

For several trades, the notification provides alternative eligibility routes through either two years of full-time apprentice-trainee experience or three years of relevant work experience in specified Government/PSU/autonomous organizations, subject to the conditions mentioned in the notification.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have the essential qualification prescribed for the trade/post they apply for. Across the listed trades, the common baseline qualification is 10th/SSC with Science and a minimum of 55% marks, along with the relevant ITI/National or State Trade Certificate or Trade Certificate as specified for each trade. The required trade certificates include COPA, DTPO, CH&NM, MLT, Draughtsman (Architecture), Instrument Mechanic, Draughtsman (Mechanical), Draughtsman (Civil), LACP, and Interior Designer.

In addition to the ITI/trade certificate route, the notification allows alternative eligibility for several trades via specified experience pathways. These alternatives include two years of full-time apprentice-trainee experience or three years of relevant work experience in specified Government/PSU/autonomous organizations, subject to the conditions in the official notification. Candidates should verify which alternative route applies to their chosen trade before submitting the application.

Age Limit

The maximum age limit is 28 years as on the last date of submission of the online application, which is 2026-09-17. Age relaxation is applicable for eligible categories as per CSIR/Government of India rules. The notification specifies the following relaxations:

Application Fee

Candidates belonging to exempted categories are not required to pay the application fee. For candidates who are required to pay, the fee must be paid online through SBI Collect and is non-refundable.

How to Apply

1. Go to the official CSIR website or the CSIR recruitment portal.
2. Open the recruitment link for “Technician (1) – 2026”.
3. Complete the registration using a valid email ID and the required personal details.
4. Select the appropriate post code/trade for which you meet the eligibility requirements.
5. Fill in the educational qualification, experience (if applicable), and other required details carefully.
6. Upload the required files, including photograph, signature, live photograph, and the certificates/documents as asked in the application form.
7. Pay the application fee online through SBI Collect, only if you are required to pay as per your category.
8. Enter the payment details and upload the transaction/e-receipt where required.
9. Submit the application before 2026-09-17 at 5:00 PM and keep a printout for future reference.

CSIR has instructed candidates to keep scanned copies of educational certificates, experience certificates, caste/disability certificates (where applicable), and other applicable documents ready before applying.

Salary & Pay Scale

Selected candidates will be appointed in Pay Matrix Level-2 with a basic pay scale of 19900 to 63200. In addition to basic pay, eligible employees may receive allowances such as HRA and travelling allowance at applicable Central Government/CSIR rates. The notification also mentions benefits such as Leave Travel Concession, reimbursement of medical expenses, and Children’s Education Allowance, subject to applicable CSIR rules.

Initial postings may be at Delhi-NCR, Pune, or Mumbai depending on CSIR requirements and its units.

Selection Process

The selection process begins with scrutiny of applications. The notification clarifies that possessing the minimum qualification does not automatically guarantee a call for the next stage. The overall process is: Application Screening → Trade Test → Competitive Written Examination → Final Merit List.

• Application Screening: Applications will be examined by a Screening Committee. Candidates may be shortlisted based on qualifications and experience provided in their applications.
• Trade Test: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a Trade Test relevant to the post. The Trade Test is qualifying in nature.
• Written Examination: Candidates who qualify in the Trade Test will appear in a competitive written examination with Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III. Paper-II and Paper-III will be evaluated only for candidates who achieve the prescribed threshold in Paper-I. The final merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in Paper-II and Paper-III.

Written Exam Pattern (as provided): The written examination will be conducted in OMR-based or computer-based objective multiple-choice format. The standard is based on SSC + ITI/Class 12 level.

Total: 150 questions and 400 marks. There is no negative marking in Paper-I, while Paper-II and Paper-III carry one negative mark for every incorrect answer.
